In this episode, we sit down with New Bedford-based scallop fisherman/entrepreneur Ryan Tavares.\xa0 Ryan tells us all about how he learned the ropes and first got onto a crew of a scallop fishing boat.\xa0 He explains that scallop boats go out year-round, and when the captain says it\u2019s time to get to the boat - you go. We also learn what each crew member is responsible for during their assigned watch and what some of the hurdles and risks involved are.\xa0 We discuss what you eat when you have a scallop and what is different about them compared to a muscle or clam.\xa0 During his time in the industry, Ryan came up with some clothing designs and originally launched them on a small scale in a couple of local supply stores.\xa0 Slave of the Sea is now a worldwide recognized lifestyle brand geared towards the commercial fishing world.\xa0 He also tells us a little about a business with his cousin - Finest Hour Athletics.\xa0
