\nPeter Hoffenberg and Jean Rosenfeld help us understand The Reenactments of Myths in American History; The Insurrection was Reenactment of a Myth. We discuss We discuss one particular myth, the Fourth Turning, adhered to by Steve Bannon, ignored by the pundit class even when he brought it up in debate and interviews. and its uncritical acceptance by people who should know better.
\n
\nThen there is the myth of America's founding, which was expounded by Trump on July 3 and 4 to a national audience. Then there is the myth of the South and its "lost cause." Myth is made real when followers dedicate themselves to enacting it, and it is not possible to "correct" it by providing mere facts.
\n
