\nFollowing the December revolution of 2018, the Sudanese people make headway in the transition to democracy. On October 25, 2021, however, the military in Sudan ordered the dissolution of the civilian-led government and carried out sweeping arrests against activists, human rights defenders, and ministers including Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok. This is a major setback since the removal of the former dictator Omar al-Bashir from Office. The military takeover threatens to derail Sudan's path to democracy, just as the country had begun to resurface after decades of autocratic rule, global isolation, and crippling economic sanctions.
