\nThis is the story of David "Noodles" Aaronson, raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York and his childhood buddies, who begin getting involved in petty crime and rise to establish a successful speakeasy during the prohibition era. "Noodles" gets arrested for stabbing a police officer and killing a rival syndicate member. He is released in 1932 and gets back with his buddies illegal business endeavors. "Noodles" engineers have his buddies arrested to prevent "Max," his syndicate's other leader from robbing the Federal Reserve Bank, a heist that "Noodles" believes will end badly for them. During a liquor heist, it appears that all three of his buddies are killed. "Noodles," then hunted by other members of the mob, goes into hiding in Buffalo, NY for 35 years. "Noodles" receives a letter about the cemetery where his parents are buried. This alerts "Noodles" that someone has located him. He returns to New York City to discover the circumstances.
