Indigenous Peoples in Conservation (Transitional Justice)

Protected areas are considered one of the leading strategies to counter climate change. Scientists advocated for 30% of the Earth\u2019s surface to become protected by 2030, thereby preventing the 1.5\xb0C temperature increase. Historically, protected areas have been problematic, given that they have usually been created on Indigenous Peoples\u2019 ancestral lands, invoking processes including land dispossession, human rights violations, and the commission of foreseeable violent crimes.
