\nOne of the core problems faced by wealthy nations worldwide is the plight of the houseless. A few architects have reached an innovative way of partially solving the problem. They build multi-family, multi-floor buildings on small urban sites using shipping containers which are by design are extremely strong and durable. The complexes include 160 to 480 square foot living spaces, and common areas include 24/7 access to bathrooms and drinking water, and offices for supportive services. The key target populations include vulnerable women and children and the chronically homeless. Amenities include roof gardens with edible plants, balconies and plenty of sunlight brought indoors. The designs are replicable and sustainable.
