\nState lawmakers are budgeting to allocate Hawaii\u2019s federal funding of about $700 million for Covid relief needs in all P-12 schools. Our Guest, Cheri Nakamura, Director of the HE\u2019E Coalition or Hui for Excellence in Education comments on the DOE's plan to distribute the federal funds in allowable ways and equitably to all schools based on the requirements of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) law. The state must apply funds accordingly, such as collecting school community input about local needs and providing after-school programming.  Do the DOE plans show how it meets ESSER's guidance and how will the public know it does?
