This Benefits Hawaii and Mainland Communities. The host for this show is Jay Fidell. The guest is Brian Glazer.
\n
\nHohonu, a two-year-old Hawaii-based startup nonprofit that uses its own sensors to detect sea level rise, has been commissioned by NOAA, to assist East Coast communities on the Mainland.
\n
\nIt is partially owned by UH and other nonprofits, and is deploying more than 40 sensors along the coast from North Carolina to Florida over a five-year period in partnership with the Southeast Coastal and Ocean Observing Regional Association.
\n
\nHohonu originated out of UH oceanography professor Brian Glazer's lab in 2014. He started by installing the sensors with Hawaiian fishpond restoration groups. His team started custom building the sensors with cheap component parts.
