\nAs rooftop solar, electric vehicles and other forms of energy generation and storage become widely available and affordable, more residential consumers of electricity will become 'prosumers.' This means they will have the capability of producing energy beyond their needs, storing it, or engaging in a new form of commerce - Peer-to-peer energy trading. If managed correctly and in partnership with regulators and utilities, this could be a boon for all parties involved, providing low cost, reliable, clean energy. This is not without its pitfalls, and reliability and cybersecurity will be a major concern as this technology and socio economic shift races ahead of the regulators.
