Many educators think of creativity as open-ended 'free-time' activities. But creative thinking strategies are powerful tools to empower learners, build comprehension, increase content comprehension, engage students in the learning process, and increase student ownership for learning. Creative thinking is one of the top qualities companies around the world look for when hiring new employees, yet it is often ignored within our educational system. The focus is too often on 'what to think' instead of helping students learn 'how to think.' Moving creative thinking into the mainstream of education not only involves the commitment of classroom teachers, but needs the support of school administrators. We need creative-thinking teachers and creative-thinking students working together for creative thinking to become a life-long skill. Dr. Juntune has been fortunate to witness & experience this as a K-12 teacher and now university professor & program director of Creative Studies at Texas A&M.
