Redlining: The Scourge of the American Scam

Question of the Hour: How Did the New Deal Create Forced Segregation That Compromised Equitable Fulfillment of the American Dream?
In looking at today s histoirically redlined neighborhoods, it becomes quite apparent that community assets are greatly affected. In this episode we lean into the conversation about the impact redlining has on social determinants of health in the Black community.
Community Assets Impacted by Redlining:

Supermarkets and other shopping opportunities
Business and job opportunities
Public transportation and other public services
Police protection and general safety
Responsiveness from public officials
Neighborhood schools and childcare


UNDESIGN THE REDLINE is a framework for unearthing our most deep, systemic, and entangled crises. This interactive exhibit, workshop series, and curriculum explores the history of structural racism and inequality, how these designs compounded each other from 1938 Redlining maps until today, and how WE can come together to undesign these systems with intentionality. The exhibit travels nationally to cities, towns and communities to learn together, activate and mobilize us into a strong WE capable of transformation.
