\nThe oldest restaurant in Idaho has an interesting and colorful history. It also has the coolest name for any restaurant. In beautiful northern Idaho, near Coeur d’Alene, you will find the Snake Pit.

\nOn Today’s episode I interview Tom Richards. Tom is the current owner of the Snake Pit. He had a lot to say about the history and some of the legend that has contributed to what the Snake Pit is today.

\nThe oldest restaurant in Idaho has been traced back to 1879. That’s over 135 years old! They got their start as a saloon and hotel in a town that was a railroad junction. There are a lot legends surrounding how the restaurant got its name. The most convincing to me was that the Snake Pit was an underground brothel. The locals knew what was going on there and said it was a pit of snakes. Hence the name snake pit.

\nRegardless of how they got their start, the Snake Pit has survived to today. They are a BBQ restaurant first and foremost. However, they also serve quality burgers, beer, and Rocky Mountain oysters. Whatever you are in the mood for, they have you covered.
