Show Notes:

NEWS:

AND\xe2€\xa6 GOOGLE DRIVE is official. \xc2 Is it a \xe2€œWow!\xe2€\x9d or an \xe2€œUh?\xe2€\x9d

TIPS/SUGGESTIONS:

Google Searches made easier: \xc2 A couple \xe2€œquick hits.\xe2€\x9d \xc2 Want to search using speech? Simply click on the microphone and talk (assuming you have a microphone). \xc2 Want to find where an image came from? \xc2 Go to the \xe2€œimages\xe2€\x9d tab, and copy and paste a URL into it. \xc2 OR\xe2€“find out what other images your image looks like:just drag your image from your computer into the image search block.

Virtual Disks \xe2€œIn the Cloud\xe2€\x9d \xe2€“\xc2 Gladinet. Gladinet lets you map your existing cloud storage sites as if they are drives on your machine. \xc2 Now you can edit Word, Excel, or other documents right in the cloud, and not take up space on your hard disk. \xc2 Of course, you have to be connected to the internet. \xc2 Possible sites to use include Google Docs, PicasaWeb, Amazon S3, Microsoft\xe2€™s Live Storage, and much much more. \xc2 The free version only connects to one, but there are other options as well.

Managing your PDFs: This one can be a real challenge. \xc2 You have hundreds (maybe thousands?) of PDFs on your computer, but do you a) know what you have, and b) know how to get to the one you want? \xc2 Enter a few choices, courtesy of\xc2 this article\xc2 from Digital Inspiration. \xc2 I personally prefer Mendeley (these are windows choices) because it is specifically designed for PDFs. \xc2 Even still, I would like something with a little more \xe2€œintelligence\xe2€\x9d that can sort the files for me based on general content anaylsis.

PAMFAX: \xc2 A new problem these days is \xe2€œHow to send a fax from home, when you don\xe2€™t have POTS any more?\xe2€\x9d \xc2 Well, I have settled on a solution that works for me. \xc2 Pamfax. \xc2 It\xe2€™s made by the same people that make the call recorder application for Skype, \xe2€œPamela Recorder.\xe2€\x9d It\xe2€™s not free, but it is affordable.

\xe2€œThe House approved Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act with a 248 to 168 vote today. CISPA allows internet service providers to\xc2 share Internet \xe2€˜threat\xe2€™ information with government agencies, including DHS and NSA, without having to protect any personally identifying data of its customers, without a court order. It effectively immunizes ISPs from privacy lawsuits for disclosing customer information, grants them anti-trust protection on colluding on cybersecurity issues and allows them to bypass privacy laws when sharing data with each other.\xe2€\x9d
