Brian Scudamore is a serial entrepreneur and author whose journey started at just 19 years old, when he founded 1-800-GOT-JUNK? In creating that business, Brian helped pioneer the junk removal business by turning a chore people avoid into an exceptional customer service experience. Then, he scaled that success into two more home-service brands, WOW 1 DAY PAINTING and Shack Shine under the O2E Brands banner.

His philosophy, which he detailed in his book “WTF (Willing To Fail)”, stems from his belief in the power of dreaming big, taking risks, and learning from mistakes. Through franchising, he’s giving thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to live their dreams of business ownership.

This Episode’s Heavy-hitter’s:

Brian’s entrepreneurship journey started when he saw his neighbor doing a car wash across the street. He immediately created his own and competed on price. The ability to walk into the candy store in those days and buy him and his friends whatever they wanted made him feel like a rockstar, and he was hooked on making his own business.

Having ADHD made it impossible for Brian to learn in school. He quit highschool for that reason, ended up pitching the admissions office to let him into college, and then still quit college because he was learning more through building his business.

The original idea for his business came from sitting in a McDonald’s parking lot, where he saw a trash removal truck and immediately had the idea to buy his own truck, and start his own business to pay for college. Ironically, this was the business that led him to drop out just a year before his graduation.

Brian became the owner of WOW 1 DAY PAINTING after he actually hired them to paint his own house. He was astounded with how quickly the company could finish the job just by having a simple system in place, and knew he had to purchase and scale the business.

When pitching press to try and get PR for his businesses, Brian doesn’t try to continue selling if the writers turn down his story. He instead asks for feedback on why it’s not a good enough story, and from there he uses their feedback to pitch other publications.

To learn more about Brian's companies, please visit: https://www.o2ebrands.com/

The POZCAST is brought to you in partnership with Vincere, the Recruitment Operating System.
