Mohammad Najibullah Ahmadzai was an Afghan politician who served as the leader and then president of Afghanistan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan) from 1986 till April 1992, shortly after which the mujahideen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_State_of_Afghanistan) took over Kabul (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabul) . After a failed attempt to flee to India (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India) , Najibullah remained in Kabul.
