1233: The futility of lockdown and the government spending to undo the damage of the futile lockdown. @JohnTamny @RealClearMarkets

Photo: A man looks from a top-floor window of a brick house, saying, "I am lockd up against my will, pray is the Poll over". In front of the house a stout, plainly dressed man holds up a key; he says, grinning, "He shall not come out unless he Votes for us, Independence for Ever". He is threatened by persons who stand on the right; the foremost says: "Damn your independence give the Poor fellow his liberty". A man behind him says: "By the law of this free Country I Demand The person Detained in your Bastille". Behind these two and on the extreme left is a group of artisans or country labourers with sticks; they say: "I wish Govr Lockup and Dr Snake were both at the Divel they are fit Companions for Each other"; "Our Freedom is gone, and Damn me if it is we'll storm the Bastille Death or liberty"; "Huzz Huzza". Beneath the design is etched: 'This Sketch is humbly Inscribed to Geo: Lockup Esqr Govr of the new Bastille north Street.' The house has a high-walled garden but does not resemble a prison. It is a brick building of three stories; the windows on the front floor have sun-blinds. It is probably a private lunatic asylum in which electors have been confined.   c.June 1790   http://JohnBatchelorShow.com/contact http://JohnBatchelorShow.com/schedules Parler & Twitter: @BatchelorShow The futility of lockdown and the government spending to undo the damage of the futile lockdown. @JohnTamny @RealClearMarkets Former Navy secretary, U.S. senator and novelist James Webb wants the U.S. to mimic China's "Belt and Road" initiative as a way of enhancing U.S. influence around the world. Webb is incorrect. A visit to China shows why. Its cities are dense with U.S. businesses and brands given feverish Chinese consumption of all things American. U.S. influence globally is a consequence of freedom, and its free people not being limited in their ability to create for a world smitten by American made. Scrap the notion of a U.S. "Belt and Road," and end the lockdowns that give the rest of the world cover to act foolish. What lifts the U.S. globally is its people living and producing freely. https://www.realclearmarkets.com/articles/2021/02/23/an_american_belt_and_road_would_logically_shrink_us_global_infuence_661326.html It would help if economists and their media enablers actually knew what inflation is. It's not too much economic growth as they argue: growth is all about falling prices because it's a consequence of investment. Even if the mythical "output gap" were real, it would have no relevance in what is an interconnected global economy. Some think the $1.9 trillion "stimulus" plan will push inflation up as demand outstrips supply. No, demand is a consequence of supply. The spending plan that won't stimulate will merely shift $1.9 trillion from one set of pockets to another set. Back to reality, inflation is a choice. It's not a brutal, decades-long fight as Janet Yellen contends from the left, nor is it about contracting the economy as Paul Volcker worshipping-conservatives argue from the right. It's currency devaluation. Devaluation is once again a choice. https://www.forbes.com/sites/johntamny/2021/02/21/the-true-challenge-with-inflation-is-that-so-few-know-what-it-is/?sh=364ba40818df .
