Hello dear listeners,
It’s been some time since our last graphic novel discussion. As such it felt right to dive once again into the world of comic Bond. So here’s to one step forward, and several decades backwards.
Yes, that’s right, it’s time to explore 007’s origin long before he ever held the famous code number. This week Matt and Edgar discover Dynamite Comics’ “James Bond Origin Vol 1” which comprises issues 1-6 as well as a special one-off that was published in a gentlemen’s magazine. The series is written by Jeff Parker with art by Bob Q and Roman Stevens, among others.
Taking place during WWII, specifically 1941, “Origin” is certainly a different take on the Bond we know and love. That does not however preclude the hosts from coming up with a bountiful list of topics to broach, among them: the trappings of a prequel story, purchasing Playboy magazine for the articles, Star Trek submarines, Officer Say Less, nichest of niche niches, reviewing every other Bond comic series except Origin, and much more.
So sit back, relax, toggle the correct frequency on your art Deco wood radio and enjoy the latest episode of The James Bond Complex.
