Hunt, Gather, Parent: Ancient Parenting Wisdom w/ Dr. Michaleen Doucleff, Episode #56

Published: Nov. 22, 2023, 7 a.m.

Today's podcast is a recording from our 2023 Children's Mental Health and Parenting Summit. In this interview, Dr Doucleff, author of " Hunt, Gather, Parent," talks about her experience of setting off with her three-year-old daughter in tow to learn and practice parenting strategies from families in three of the world\u2019s most traditional communities: Maya families, Inuit families, and Hadzabe families. She finds a very different parenting culture within these communities. Parents talk less, children are more independent, and the parent-child relationship is built on cooperation instead of control. These families are also family-centered instead of child-centered. In this interview, Doucleff explores the differences and how we can apply them to modern-day parenting.\xa0
