'BradCast' 9/28/2021 ('A Time of Intensity')

On today's 'BradCast':\xa0\xa0 House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned her caucus that this week will be a 'time of intensity' as Congressional Democrats work to pass four\xa0 major pieces of legislation with long-term national and global impacts. Senate Republicans have filibustered legislation to keep the US Government from a costly shut down on Thursday (Sept. 30) and raise or suspend the ridiculous, statutory debt ceiling (which pays for spending already approved by Congress). Treasury Sec. Janet Yellin warned failure will cause the U.S. to default on its debt for the first time in history. Republicans' destructive hostage-taking appears to be intended to sow chaos and uncertainty for political gain, even if it triggers a potential meltdown of the global economy. Democrats are also working to forge a compromise within the party to pass Joe Biden's very popular, very progressive Build Back Better agenda, which expands the social safety net and addresses climate change, along with a smaller bipartisan infrastructure package to repair the nation's crumbling roads and bridges. A very small handful of 'moderate' Dems are trying to break a prior deal to vote on both measures together, but the Progressive Democratic Caucus is having none of it. Objections from Senators Joe Manchin (WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) pushing phony concerns over the 'cost' of the historic, paid-for legislation are belied by their actions indicating their focus is on their own personal benefit.
