On today's show: Donald Trump caved, finally agreeing to reopen the federal government -- at least temporarily -- after the longest shutdown in U.S. history. Trump pretended he'd made a "deal" with Democrats but, in fact, he simply agreed to continue funding the government at its previous levels until February 15. During bizarre White House remarks, he suggested he will shut the government down again or declare a "national emergency" if he doesn't get a deal for his wall. There were many reasons Trump finally buckled today, including increasing pressure from lawmakers in his own party, plummeting poll numbers, and dire warnings from the FAA that a shortage of air traffic controllers was causing flight delays along the Eastern Seaboard. But there were two other stories the Administration was eager to get off the front pages: first, a stunning report that a Trump appointee granted Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner a top secret security clearance that had previously been overruled by career security professionals at the White House (and similarly approved "at least 30" others who'd been rejected!).\xa0 Also, Trump's longtime supporter and dirty trickster Roger Stone was arrested in Florida and charged with seven counts of lying to federal officials, witness tampering and obstruction of justice, as part of Robert Mueller's Special Counsel probe. Criminal justice reporter AKELA LACY of The Intercept explains her investigation into the decision by the Trump Health and Human Services Department to quietly approve a controversial waiver allowing a Christian foster care group in South Carolina to discriminate against prospective foster parents on the basis of their religious affiliation. Critics fear the precedent is poised to spread to other federal agencies and other states, as the Administration's partnership with "Religious Right" Republicans under the guise of "religious freedom" is now officially sanctioning religious discrimination....
