Shylaja Subramanian is a retired professor of Chemistry from the Universidade Federal da Para\xedba (UFPB) in Jo\xe3o Pessoa, Brazil. She received here undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Madras in 1963 and her masters degree from the same university in 1965. She moved to Brazil in 1973, and in 1975 she joined the department of chemistry at UFPB, where she taught many courses. She was also involved in the very first research project of that department. In 1996, she obtained here PhD degree in physical chemistry with distinction from the Univesidade de S\xe3o Paulo (USP) three years before her retirement.
