Last year, we saw the media regularly call Black Lives Matter protesters \u201crioters,\u201d \u201cviolent,\u201d or \u201cthugs.\u201d Yet on January 6, those who attacked the U.S. Capitol were often described as \u201cpassionate protestors\u201d and \u201cTrump supporters.\u201d Linguistic anthropologist Suzanne Wertheim explains why these language disparities matter\u2014and how biases like these show up in our workplaces, too.
