I was still hunched over the desk, but I could smell it. Her cigarette. It felt as if every particle of ash was boring its way up into my nose, past my eyes, into my skull. When she dimmed the lights, I\\u2019d been mostly suspicious and partly curious about what she had in mind. But now I was just thankful. Because it felt as if every pinpoint of light was focusing through the lenses of my eyes and drilling through my brain.
