125: Why You're Afraid of Change

Change is the WORST.\xa0Or at least that\u2019s what I used to tell myself \u2013 for like 30 years.\n\xa0\nAfter becoming a mom I spent a full year feeling completely run over by all the change and unpredictability of my new mommy life.\xa0I kept wait for everything to \u201cgo back to normal.\u201d\n\xa0\nAs you can guess \u2013 that never happened.\xa0\n\xa0\nI had to resolve myself to the constant change that is motherhood.\xa0\n\xa0\nAs someone who thrives on routine and predictability, that was a tough pill to swallow.\xa0But then I looked at some of ways I had embraced change in other areas of my life over the last 10 years and I was able to slooooooowly start embracing motherhood and change in a new and more positive light.\xa0\n\xa0\nBefore I tell you how to get over your fear of change, let me help you understand why you\u2019re afraid of change:\n\xa0\n\nThe known is always more comfortable than the unknown\n\nWe live in a fear based culture \u2013 so we\u2019re programmed to be afraid of what we do not yet know\n\nWe like consistency, predictability and control\n\nWe\u2019re scared of failure, mistakes, and of wasting our time and energy\n\n\xa0\nAnd now \u2013 the good stuff - how to get over your fear of change:\n\nRecognize that you are already in constant flux and transition\n\nConsider change an opportunity for a \u201csoftware upgrade\u201d\n\nKnow there will be moments of panic and doubt and possibly a sense of complete failure and/or regret\n\nKnow that practicing and embracing change makes it feel less burdensome\n\nUnderstand that the best way to conquer fear and anxiety is to prove to yourself you CAN do the things you are afraid of\n\nchange is not bad \u2013 it\u2019s just different\n\n\xa0\nLinks Mentioned:\nSponsor: Aaptiv.com (use code SMA30 for a free 30 day trial)\n\xa0\n\xa0\n\xa0\nLearn more about your ad choices.
