Victims of bullying in the police are calling for the Police Commissioner to get rid of those to blame for toxic culture where bullying is rife. A report by the Independent Police Conduct Authority says there needs to urgent change to the autocratic management style that fosters the bad behaviour. It came after a two year RNZ investigation in which almost 200 current and former sworn and non sworn police staff spoke about the bullying culture John Woodward, a former constable from the West Coast of the South Island, was one of the people who came forward to RNZ in 2019. He says the IPCA report vindicates him, after the previous Police Commissioner, Mike Bush, and Police Minister, Stuart Nash, dismissed his complaints. Woodward says those who led the bullying should resign.
