Covid-19: Covid Card trial 'not hugely successful' - Hipkins

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says technology is being considered by the government, but the Covid Card project has effectively been deemed a failure. A trial of the card took place in late 2020, Hipkins said it was found the cards weren't picking up enough contacts, or weren't picking up the right ones. [audio_play] "It wasn't going to be the magical solution that those people thought it would be." He told Morning Report adding bluetooth functionality to the Covid Tracer app did essentially the same job. "We've gone with a form of Covid Card in the sense that the Bluetooth functionality on people's phones, if they've switched it on, does more or less the same thing."
