\nLainey Wilson Dominated Last Night's CMA Awards

\n

\xa0Lainey Wilson\xa0cleaned house at last night's\xa0"57th Annual CMA Awards".\xa0 She won five awards, including Entertainer of the Year.\xa0 Yes, you heard that right.\xa0 She became the first female to win that award since Taylor Swift in 2011. \xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

She also won Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for\xa0"Bell Bottom Country"\xa0. . . and her song with\xa0Hardy,"Wait In the Truck", won Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year.\xa0 Yeah, it was her night.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

Nobody else dominated, although\xa0Chris Stapleton\xa0seems to own the Male Vocalist of the Year category.\xa0 He won his\xa0seventh.\xa0 \xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

There was an early surprise when\xa0Luke Combs'\xa0"Fast Car"\xa0won Single of the Year, and then moments later, Song of the Year.\xa0 The\xa0Internet\xa0wasn't happy that a cover beat out songs written by country artists in BOTH of those categories.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

Luke Bryan\xa0and\xa0Peyton Manning\xa0were solid.\xa0 They stood shoulder-to-shoulder and delivered a good monologue.\xa0 They busted on each other, showed clips of each other doing stupid things, and even sang together.\xa0 It's their gig as long as they want it.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

The night was filled with great performances.\xa0\xa0Jelly Roll\xa0opened the show with\xa0"Need A Favor", and it got better when\xa0Wynonna Judd\xa0and her amazing voice joined him.\xa0 Unfortunately, it looked like she wasn't feeling well, and\xa0struggled\xa0to keep her balance.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

Ashley McBryde\xa0quietly commanded the stage while performing\xa0"The Devil I Know".\xa0\xa0 Same with\xa0Jordan Davis\xa0singing\xa0"Next Thing You Know".

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

You want romantic?\xa0 While\xa0Cody Johnson\xa0was singing\xa0"The Painter", a digital mural of his wife Brandi was on a\xa0giant screen\xa0behind him.\xa0 It went from black & white to color by the time song ended, and they showed her in the audience crying when it was over.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

There was a surprise when\xa0Morgan Wallen\xa0and\xa0Eric Church\xa0performed\xa0"Man Made a Bar".\xa0 They were unannounced, but definitely welcomed.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

Even though it's impossible to dislike\xa0Luke Combs.\xa0 His performance of\xa0"Where the Wild Things Are"\xa0was, well, uninspiring.\xa0 It just never took off.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

And then there's\xa0Chris Stapleton.\xa0 He never sits one out.\xa0 He played lead guitar and sang\xa0"White Horse"\xa0. . . and it was amazing.\xa0 It made me wish I was in the audience joining them for the standing ovation when it was over.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

Speaking of that.\xa0 You want another clue that it was Lainey Wilson's night?\xa0 The crowd gave her a standing ovation before she even started her performance of\xa0"Wildflowers and Wild Horses".\xa0 They must have known they were in for something big.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

The stage looked like she borrowed a scene from\xa0"Yellowstone" . . . with chaparral, billows of smoke, barbed wire . . . and all of it colored it red.\xa0 There was even a ring of fire.\xa0 As promised, it was electrifying.

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

Here's a message to\xa0Kelsea Ballerini.\xa0 You did a fine job performing\xa0"Leave Me Again", but that IS your last divorce song, right?

\n

\xa0

\n

\xa0

\n

The\xa0Jimmy Buffett\xa0tribute\xa0had\xa0Kenny Chesney\xa0and\xa0Mac McAnally\xa0singing\xa0"A Pirate Looks at Forty"\xa0. . . then\xa0Zac Brown\xa0and\xa0Alan Jackson\xa0on\xa0"Adios, My Friend"\xa0. . . and then all four on\xa0"Margaritaville".\xa0 In the words of Kenny, "Thank you, Jimmy."

Lainey Wilson recently bought 30 acres near Nashville, and she's getting help taking care of the place.\xa0 Here she is\xa0talking\xa0about putting her boyfriend Devlin "Duck" Hodges to work.
