The story follows a group of explorers as they enter "The Shimmer", a mysterious quarantined zone filled with mutating plants and animals caused by an alien presence. Lena, a biology professor and army veteran, joins the expedition to find a remedy for her husband Kane\'s comatose condition, but soon realizes the Shimmer is not what it seems.
