Common - Like Thoughts For Chocolate

Published: June 10, 2020, 2 p.m.

Common’s album from 2000, “Like Water for Chocolate”, is inspired by Laura Esquivel’s 1989 album with the same name. Long story short (don’t worry, we’ll touch on it), Common wanted to make sure that you felt his emotions from his work as Tita did with her cooking from the novel as everything around them began to reach a boiling point. From questioning life and its contradictions, to love, acknowledgment of different walks of life or sticking true to oneself despite struggles, Common covers a lot of ground with some deep verses. Does it all factor in to help make sense of today? Check our rap thoughts and press play.
