Brian Moss joins the podcast this week to discuss the release of the new album from his project Hanalei, called Black Snow. Hanalei is a mostly solo project that Brian has been doing for nearly two decades, allowing him to flex his creative muscle with songs that might otherwise not fit in with the other projects that he was doing at any given time. This new album features several guest musicians, including longtime collaborators Ryan Marshall (Great Apes) and Josh Staples (The Velvet Teen/The New Trust).
On the creation of the new album, as Brian describes it, "I began writing Black Snow roughly two years ago after finding out my wife was pregnant. The process served as a means of coping with the relentless anxiety and bouts of depression that polluted my expected joy. How could I bring a child into a world on the verge of collapse?"
Not unlike other musical projects he's been involved in, the songs are written in a narrative voice, in this case set in the not-too-distant future during a turbulent time for the environment. Among those many projects that Brian Moss has been involved in over the years include his bands Great Apes (Asian Man Records), The Ghost (Solidarity Records), Olehole! (Underground Communique Records), Sub-Dio, The Wunder Years (Tomato Head / Side With Us Records) and more.
Black Snow is available to pre-order on vinyl now via A-F Records, here - https://a-frecords.limitedrun.com/
