Newsom’s bumpy path to ban fracking in California

California Governor Gavin Newsom directed his administration last week to ban new fracking permits within three years in the state. The move comes after the state legislature, controlled by Democrats, voted against the ban – which Newsom himself said last year he didn't have the power to issue as governor.
