2020 Angouleme Grand Prix Nominees

Published: Jan. 21, 2020, 4 p.m.

Angouleme is right around the corner, and we now know the three names who are the finalists for this year's Grand Prix award. In this week's podcast, I'll be discussing them. Lambiek biographies of the nominees: https://www.lambiek.net/artists/w/ware1.htm (Chris Ware) https://www.lambiek.net/artists/g/guibert_emman.htm (Emmanuel Guibert) https://www.lambiek.net/artists/m/meurisse_catherine.htm (Catherine Meurisse) Since recording this episode a few days ago, I've learned more about the two French nominees, and now I'm definitely rooting for Catherine Meurisse. http://www.tcj.com/catherine-meurisse-the-face-of-french-comics-is-female/ (The Comics Journal write-up on her) is amazing, and I want to read a couple of her books right away now. What I forgot about is that Guibert and Ware were the two runners-up last year. There's every possible chance they may repeat that this year. Ouch.
