P.I.D. Radio 10/23/11: Out of Iraq, Into Africa

Published: Oct. 23, 2011, 11:50 p.m.

ALMOST LOST in the news cycle already was the announcement last week that the U.S. is sending military advisers–Special Forces soldiers–to Uganda to help chase down the Lord's Resistance Army, a militaristic cult headed by Joseph Kony. Why now, when Kony has been active in Uganda, Sudan, and the Congo for over 20 years?  (See the LRA Crisis Tracker and Derek's new interview with researcher Tony Kail for details.)
Is there any connection to recent discoveries of oil in the region, or to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni's link to the powerful and secretive American "Christian" group The Family?  (For more on The Family, see Derek's interview with journalist Jeff Sharlet.)
Also: Leaving Iraq; Kenya's military says the US may be bombing militants in neighboring Somalia; DARPA building robotic cheetahs to hunt down baddies; first national EAS test set for 11/9/11; possible vote on Palestinian statehood on 11/11/11; Occupy Wall Street protesters complain about their own bankers; and Hillary on Qaddafi: "We came, we saw, he died."
