How This Survivor Is Helping the Helpers Thrive

Dr. Yvonne Ator is a physician coach who helps other physicians overcome compassion fatigue, disillusionment, and burnout, and thrive in their personal and professional lives. She employs Daring Way Facilitation and positive psychology-based personal and executive coaching to accomplsih this.

Yvonne received her medical degree from East Carolina School of Medicine and a Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. She has extensive training in coaching and is a certified personal and executive coach.

She’s also a member of the Physician Nonclinical Career Hunters Facebook Group, where she engages with, and helps, other members.

Yvonne’s story is quite inspirational. Several personal experiences, including her father's illness, a friend's death, and a physician strike came together to thrust her into the study and mastery of coaching.

I really admire her commitment and passion. During our conversation, she provided encouragement and advice that we can all apply to our work and personal lives.

I’m fascinated by how many of my guests have been helped by coaching. It’s something we discussed last time in Episode 102 with Starla Fitch. And physicians seem to be a natural fit for becoming a coach, for a variety of reasons:

 1. We’re interested in our patients’ well-being;
 2. We’re analytical; and,
 3. We're very good listeners when we’re not forced to see our patients or clients in an assembly line fashion.

You may have noticed that I’m in the middle of a series featuring coaches. And I’m learning something new from each one. I have one more physician coach to feature on next week's interview. So be sure to listen.
