The music industry is dominated by three major record labels: Universal, Sony and Warner\u2026they are multi-national entities that control most of the world\u2019s trade in music and all the revenue that goes with it\u2026.\n\nBut beyond those three companies are hundreds, thousands of labels that do their own thing\u2026and because they are unaffiliated with the big three, we consider them to be \u201cindependent\u201d\u2026\n\nThey are the indie labels\u2026.the musicians who record for them are indie artists\u2026this is the universe of the non-mainstream\u2026the experimental, the daring, the outliers, the unusual, the non-conformist\u2014or, if you prefer, the not-ready-for-prime-time\u2026at least not now\u2014and maybe never\u2026\n\nThe indie universe is the engine of change for rock\u2019n\u2019roll\u2026whatever sounds and trends and fads are coming next often start here\u2026and it\u2019s through their work and their art that we\u2019re all dragged into the future\u2026\n\nI shall illustrate\u2026this is part two of the history of indie rock\u2026\nLearn more about your ad choices.
