Many years ago, I took a leadership development course that incorporated improv into our training. It was fascinating to learn how an acting technique could improve working relationships and my leadership style, and yet it makes so much sense. Managers have to learn to navigate through unexpected challenges and make decisions to move the company forward, while engaging others in the process and vision.

The instructor introduced the concept of “Yes, and” where you build on whatever was said prior in the conversation. It is both a chance to move something toward the positive and build on what is being shared.

This episode provides tips on how to infuse “Yes, and” into your communications—and even how to use it to disagree effectively.

Your One Bold Move: Practice using collaborative language. Use “Yes, And” in a conversation today.

For more from Shanna:
Website: https://www.shannaahocking.com
Follow on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shannaahocking
Follow on Instagram: @ShannaAHocking

To sign up for Shanna's newsletter with more leadership and career advice: https://www.shannaahocking.com/subscribe or text SHANNA to 66866
