In her new book, Asylum by Boat: Origins of Australia\u2019s Refugee Policy (New South Press, 2017), Claire Higgins, a Senior Research Associate at the Andrew and Renata Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law at the University of New South Wales Law School, explores the origins of Australia\u2019s refugee policy. She investigates the Australian government\u2019s response to the arrival by boat, in the late 1970s, of thousands of Vietnamese refugees.
