The Center for Family Resources CEO Melanie Kagan and Director of Operations Lee Smith join “Money Talks” to share the organization’s mission and upcoming Thanks for Giving food drive. The Center for Family Resources (CFR) is a Cobb County-based nonprofit organization that works to stabilize and empower local families so they may become self-sufficient through financial stabilization, housing, and education. The organization offers multiple short-term housing programs, a GED prep program that provides one-on-one coaching and group classes, and an on-site food pantry with fresh produce and breads, a wide variety of canned goods, and other essentials like diapers, infant formula, and personal hygiene items, and many other services. They also focus on The CFR’s annual Thanks for Giving food drive. The CFR provides holiday food boxes distributed to low-income, Cobb County families during the Thanksgiving break. Boxes include the ingredients for families to cook their own traditional holiday meal. Additionally, since the week of Thanksgiving can be a strain on families’ food budgets while children are home from school, they provide extras like breakfast food, pasta, and peanut butter for those added meals.
