Dear humans of 2020.  While I watch the ensuing chaos in our streets here in 2050, I can't stress enough the immense responsibility that lay before you. We did not take the potentially devastating consequences of your coming U.S. election seriously enough. We allowed our hijacked thoughts and emotions to turn into rage and complacency, driving us further apart toward each side of the spectrum. 

After President Trump\u2019s reelection, the world hardened. Things got much worse than you could imagine, but the unseen damage was far greater. Confusion and distrust in communication brought on by deep fakes and out of control conspiracy theories were the final pieces to a failing system designed to bring us closer, yet has done the opposite. Those in power will use this to their advantage for a hostile takeover, setting our civilization back decades in innovation and climate action.

However, while the risks posed by AI will begin to dominate your headlines, behind the scenes there is a quiet renaissance underway as AI systems pair with natural-world mimicry to tackle the greatest challenges facing humanity, from climate change and COVID-19, to world hunger.

You now have the chance to allow the emerging Global Brain to learn to work in your favor. You must understand it is not technology that is the enemy, but rather the way it is used. There is only one answer. You must spark a creative renaissance before a destructive revolution takes hold.
