Welcome to the Anthology series. In this series, we seek to highlight artistes who have released a large bevy of music over a considerable period of time that has blessed the nations far and wide. We firmly believe in giving honour to whom honour is due. It takes a lot to put out music that is of good quality on a consistent basis, so we definitely don’t take that process lightly. Today, we'll be covering the Tobagonian CARICOM icon, Positive (@positivetnt).
Hailing from the beautiful island of Tobago, out of a small village called John Dial, comes one of the most unique voices in Caribbean Gospel. Positive is a christian singer/songwriter, producer, husband and father of two. With a catalog of 4 albums including hit songs like ‘Blessing After Blessing’, ‘Mighty Healer’ and ‘Out Ya’ he has carved out a distinctive territory in the music industry both regionally and internationally over the years, reaching Top 10 spots on both Billboard & iTunes Reggae Albums’ Charts.
At an early age, Joel "Positive" Murray displayed a strong passion for music, especially acoustic styles, such that he cultivated his life into it. The rhythmic accents on the off-beat by the guitar led him to identify with reggae, which became his love.
He not only wrote and sang but began to produce his own music as well. Despite coming from an unwealthy family background, the hand of God was moving in the life of this young man. A call to excellence coupled with the influence of a good family enabled Positive to take his musical passion beyond the walls of Tobago as he has headlined major events across the Caribbean, UK, Europe, North and Central America with his backing band, the Signature Band.
Positive was granted a record deal in his early days with Lion Of Judah sounds of Bahamas, led by gospel reggae artiste Monty G. He now operates his own music house, Bricksvale Records. To date, Positive has released four albums entitled “Never Let Go", "Forever My King", "Stand And Be Counted" and "Heartwired". He has collaborated with the likes of DJ Nicholas, Jermaine Edwards, V. Rose and Jonathan McReynolds, Alaine and more. He has also shared the stage with the likes of Papa San, Deitrick Haddon and many others. The Lord has blessed him with a mindset of music as well as kingdom business, and he intends to carry the message of Christ on to as many generations as possible. There is a lot more to expect from Positive as his perfectionist mentality only inspires him to strive for consistent excellence.
Positive, a young man blessed with the musical message of peace, love, holiness and righteousness, continues to walk in the light of God and shows no signs of slowing down. He is living proof that God can use any vessel that is willing.
For Positive, music is a means of sharing uplifting spiritual messages that can influence the lives of people for the better. Despite the accolades, impacting the listener is what’s important. His mission is simple: share the love of Jesus Christ, win souls for the Kingdom and live a life pleasing to Almighty God.
