08/10/16 Alan and Marilyn Bergman Celebrated Songwriters/Lyricists for TV Shows, Films and Musicals

Two of the world\u2019s most distinguished
lyricists, Alan and Marilyn Bergman, have been contributing to the Great
American Songbook for more than five decades.


\xa0During their celebrated career, Alan
and Marilyn\u2019s songs have been nominated for sixteen Academy Awards, for which they have won three: "The
Windmills of Your Mind" in 1968, "The Way
We Were" in 1973, and
the score for "Yentl" in 1984. "Windmills"
and "The Way We Were" also
earned Golden Globe Awards, and "The Way We Were" earned two Grammys.


\xa0The first songwriters to be nominated
for three Academy Awards for Best
Song out of the five nominated songs, 1983 brought them nominations for \xa0"How Do You Keep the Music Playing?"
from "Best Friends;"\xa0 "It
Might Be You" from "Tootsie;\u201d and\xa0 "If We Were In Love" from "Yes, Giorgio.\u201d\xa0
In 1984, they again received three
nominations: for the score for \u201cYentl\u201d
(for which they were awarded the Oscar)
and two for the songs, "The
Way He Makes Me Feel" and "Papa, Can You Hear Me?\u201d\xa0


\xa0In 1995, they wrote the Golden Globe, Academy Award and Grammy
nominated song \u201cMoonlight\u201d performed by Sting in the Sydney Pollack film,
\u201cSabrina.\u201d\xa0 Among
their principal collaborators are Michel Legrand, Dave Grusin, Johnny Mandel,
John Williams, Quincy Jones, James Newton Howard and the late Cy Coleman, Henry
Mancini and Marvin Hamlisch.


Alan Marilyn\u2019s long list of television credits includes the theme
songs for "Maude," "Good Times," "Alice\u201d, "Brooklyn Bridge \u201c and
\u201cIn the Heat of the Night."\xa0
They have received four Emmy
Awards:\xa0 For the award-winning drama,"Sybil,\u201d and
for the first made-for-TV dramatic musical, "Queen of the Stardust
Ballroom\u201d. Another for their original song \u201cOrdinary Miracles\u201d, from
the HBO Special \u201cBarbra Streisand: The
Concert.\u201d\xa0


They won their fourth Emmy for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for \u201cA Ticket to Dream\u201d from AFI\u2019s 100 Years
100 Movies Special.


\xa0Among their songs are\u2026 \xa0for Frank Sinatra \u201cNice \u2018n\u2019 Easy\u201d, for Ray
Charles \u201cIn the Heat of the Night\u201d, for Fred Astaire \u201cThat
Face\u201d, and \u201cYou Don\u2019t Bring Me Flowers\u201d,\xa0 \u201cWhat
Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?",\xa0
\u201cSo Many Stars\u201d, \u201cThe Summer Knows\u201d, \u201cWhere Do You Start?\u201d,\xa0 \u201cOn My
Way to You\u201d, \u201cYou Must Believe In
Spring\u201d, to name but a few.


\xa0Alan and Marilyn are
currently working on projects with Michel Legrand and playwright, Josh
Ravetch.\xa0 They have just completed two
songs with composer Dave Grusin.\xa0 \u201cHurry
Home\u201d for the film \u201cMax Rose\u201d premiering this month and \u201cJust
Getting Started\u201d for the \u201cVitality After 90\u201d film to be released later this
year.
