The Message, the Ministry, and the Mission of Jesus
All the Gospels agree that two things happened to Jesus in the course of going to heal the daughter of a roman officer: A woman with a chronic condition is healed just by touching Jesus' cloak, and the girl dies in the interim. Then Jesus has the opportunity to show the power he has over death itself and raises the girl to life. What is the significance of these miracles happening in this sequence? We find here that Jesus has enacted his ultimate purpose in the world during the course of this one episode.
