Brian Rose's Real Deal - Health First - How The Economic Recession Is Causing Serious Mental Health Issues: We Need Leadership Now

This is the second in a series of me going in the field to find out how we can make London great again. I sat down with two titans of British business, Simon Woodroffe and Peter Dore-Smith to better understand the frustrations of real business leaders here in the city.

The stranglehold on companies is also having a knock-on effect on people’s mental health with a significant increase in stress levels, anxiety, loneliness and hopelessness reported during the pandemic.

I was extremely concerned to hear that one in five unemployed people have reported suicidal thoughts and feelings. This is particularly concerning given the likely increase in unemployment that’s coming due to the recession. We simply have to do a better job of getting people back into healthy working routines and enabling businesses to operate unimpeded.

This week I was particularly keen to hear your thoughts on:

  • What is your single biggest economic challenge right now?
  • Since the pandemic have you felt a significant increase in stress levels, anxiety, loneliness and hopelessness?
  • How do you think we can solve these problems?
  • Do we need better leadership?
