At the fore, Skipper sticks a boat hook into the water. \u201cThere are plenty of critters here,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s like playing grab bag. You\u2019ll always catch something on the hook.\u201d He thrusts the boat hook up and down a couple of times, stirs it in the slush, and pulls it out again.
