In this week’s episode I sit down with Margaret Grenier. Margaret Grenier is the Executive and Artistic Director for the Dancers of Damelahamid Society. In our conversation we discuss how she was immersed from a young age in the practice of song and dance passed down for countless generations, as well as her work with the Dancers of Damelahamid to help advance the public’s knowledge and appreciation of the art, history, language, and traditions of First Nations’ culture through story, dance, and song. We also discuss the importance of structure and form in the dances that she creates, the Coastal First Nations Dance Festival her company runs, as well as where she hopes to see the type of performances companies like the Dancers of Damelahamid are creating headed in the future.
