Martin Luther King Jr. would have been 91 years old this year. “I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states,” King wrote in his 1963 Letter from a Birmingham Jail. “I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” In celebration of this icon of civil rights, we will play a gospel tribute to Dr. King from the wealth of recordings released in MLK’s lifetime from the golden age of black gospel music.
