Jim Kelly became Ambassador of Ireland to Canada in August 2016. He presented his credentials to the Governor General, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnson at Rideau Hall, Ottawa, on 6th September 2016. The Embassy of Ireland is also accredited to Jamaica and the Bahamas.

"Canada and Ireland have worked closely on international issues over many years in the context of our shared membership of the UN. As two open trading economies, with a strong shared commitment to a rules based international order, we have a similar world view and much to learn from each other. The value of annual trade between our two countries is estimated at approximately \u20ac2.5bn, and with both of our economics growing and the new EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement close to finalisation, there is considerable potential for an expansion in our trade.

During my time in Canada, I look forward to working with my colleagues here at the Embassy and in the State Agencies to cement and further developing our warm relations, and to build closer economic, political, cultural and people-to-people links between our two countries. I also look forward to travelling this great country and meeting as many of you as possible over the coming years." - Ambassador Jim Kelly
