South District Visioning

Published: Feb. 15, 2017, 10 a.m.

The City of Iowa City Neighborhood and Development Services Urban Planning Office presents consultants from Opticos Design, who presented in February 2017 at a South District visioning event. This program features only the presentation, however, following the presentation, participants were invited to share their vision for the area. A similar workshop focusing on the Northside Neighborhood was also held in February 2017.

The workshops kicks-off a six month project to further goals included in the City's recently adopted Comprehensive and South District Plans. Those plans aim to preserve and build on the success of walkable, central neighborhoods while also ensuring that new neighborhoods are designed to be safe, comfortable and walkable, and include a balanced mix of housing ranging from single family homes to duplexes, townhomes and apartments.

City staff are working with Opticos Design, a consulting firm that specializes in planning and designing walkable, sustainable neighborhoods. Input from these workshops will be used to develop zoning tools to achieve the neighborhood vision.
