Published: June 16, 2015, 10 a.m.

Electronic cigarettes (E-cigs) are being aggressively marketed as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. However their safety and effectiveness as a cessation device or harm reduction device are still in question. This presentation by Susan Vileta will describe what an e-cig is, what is really in the vapor produced by them, the current status of regulation, and the motives and tactics of the tobacco industry in marketing the devices.

Susan Vileta, Health Educator with Johnson County Public Health, has 7 years of experience with tobacco prevention and control in Iowa and Minnesota. A graduate of The University of Iowa, Susan has a diverse background that spans human resources, health advocacy and public health. She joined the Health Educator team at Johnson County Public Health in the summer of 2014 and has dedicated herself to working with local youth, schools, businesses, governments and property management companies to eliminate or reduce the negative impact of tobacco use and exposure.
