Iowa City Blue Zones Project - Lincoln Elementary Blue Zones School%C2%AE Designation

Published: May 15, 2015, 10 a.m.

Iowa City is working to become a Blue Zones Community®--a community that promotes well-being for all residents. Achieving that goal requires schools, worksites, restaurants, grocery stores, and city government to make changes to the environment, policy and social networks. As each of these sectors does its part, we will all share the benefits of living in a community where well-being is a way of life.

Schools play a key role in the Blue Zones project by creating an environment that supports healthy lifestyle choices today and for years to come. Our Iowa City schools are utilizing evidence-based best practices from around the country that are proven to optimize school environment to better promote physical, social, and emotional health.

Lincoln Elementary is Iowa City's first Blue Zones School®. Lincoln staff, students, and parents came together to create a school culture that centers around student and staff well-being. Lincoln achieved designation on April 15, 2015 and is leading the way for other Iowa City schools to follow.

Congratulations to the Lincoln Elementary community for this great accomplishment, and for contributing toward Iowa City's progress of becoming a Blue Zones Community®.
